  1. Keep listening...

That's just about your lot for our live text commentary of this evening's matches.

It was a day to remember for 27-year-old British qualifier Lily Miyazaki, who reached the second-round proper of a Grand Slam for the first time after a 6-3 6-3 win over Margarita Betova.

Emma Raducanu, of course, came through qualifying to win the US Open in 2021. Miyazaki couldn't, could she?

  2. Game, set and match Ruud

    Ruud 7-6 (7-5) 3-6 6-4 7-6 (7-5) Nava

Fifth seed Casper Ruud has been made to work in his first round match by American qualifier Emilio Nava, but he eventually closed out the match in four sets after a tie-break.

It took last year's runner-up a little over three hours to make round two, where he will face Zhizhen Zhang of China.

  3. Game, set and match Rybakina

    Rybakina 6-2 6-1 Kostyuk

Fourth seed Elena Rybakina has cruised into the second round, breaking Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk five times on her way to a comfortable first round win.

The former Wimbledon champion has never got beyond the third round at Flushing Meadows but she easily brushed aside her unseeded opponents ranked 32nd in the world.

It seemed a tough match on paper; the Kazakh made sure it wasn't.

  4. 'Smart tactics from Miyazaki...'

"Lily Miyazaki regularly posed Margarita Betova problems with her consistent returning, using the cross-court forehand in particular to good effect in a smart tactical performance," is the verdict of my esteemed colleague Jonathan Jurejko.

He was on Court 8 for every moment of Miyazak's first victory in the main draw of a Gran Slam.

You can read his report from the match here...

  5. Game, set and match Haddad Maia

    Stephens 2-6 7-5 4-6 Haddad Maia

Sloane Stephens, champion in 2017, is out after an epic battle with Brazil's Beatriz Haddad Maia.

The pair traded five breaks in the deciding set in front of a partisan Louis Armstrong Stadium backing the American.

But the 19th seed holds her nerve to reach the second round at Flushing Meadows for only the second time.

  6. 'New York distractions take my mind off score'

    Miyazaki 6-3 6-3 Betova

Britain's Lily Miyazaki on how she is dealing with New York's many distractions: "It’s very different to Wimbledon but I actually think that it actually helps me because when it is really silent you can get into your own head.

"Here there are so many distractions it keeps my mind off the score and things like that. I gave actually enjoyed the atmosphere here.

"I was really grateful for the support from Jodie and everyone else and it really helped me in tough moments."

On facing Belinda Bencic in the second round:

"It’s going to be a tough match for sure. I have seen her play many times but she probably doesn’t know very much about me."

  7. Post update

Tim Henman says on Sky Sports that Lily Miyazki "tried to play tennis on her terms, which was so impressive about her performance".

Henman adds: "I think if she goes for her shots against Belinda Bencic she could cause another upset."

  8. Rybakina breaks in second set

    Rybakina 6-2 3-0 Kostyuk*

Elena Rybakina is racing towards the second round breaking early in the second set against Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk.

The former Wimbledon champion has never gone beyond the third round at the US Open, but she's seeded fourth and looking in great touch on Grandstand.

  9. Miyazaki 'lost for words'

    Miyazaki 6-3 6-3 Betova

Lily Miyazki speaking on her main draw debut: "I am lost for words right now.

"Coming into this tournament Ididn’t expect to be at this stage just yet."

On her Wimbledon experience compared to today:

"That experience at Wimbledon was huge for me. The nightbefore I was really nervous and I could hardly sleep but before this match Ijust told myself it’s just another match.

"I had played once at this stagebefore so the Wimbledon experience was really beneficial."

  10. Post update

That was really impressive stuff from Lily Miyazaki. She turned the screw when it mattered.

Miyazaki will face 15th seed Belinda Bencic in the next round.

  11. Game, set and match - Miyazaki

    Miyazaki 6-3 6-3 Betova

And Lily Miyazaki takes it! It's game, set and match for the Briton as she reaches the second round of Grand Slam for the first time.

  12. Match point for Miyazaki

    *Miyazaki 6-3 5-3 Betova

Lily Miyazaki now has a second match point. This time on her own serve.

  13. Betova saves match point

    Miyazaki 6-3 5-3 Betova*

Margarita Betova does not look like she has much left in the tank, as she manages to cling on to her serve to just about stay in the contest.

Lily Miyazaki will serve for the match.

  14. Match point for Miyazaki

    Miyazaki 6-3 5-2 Betova*

Margarita Betova scratches her way through a jittery service game and a massively overhit forehand on her own serve gives Lily Miyazaki a shot at match point.

  15. Game and first set Rybakina

    *Rybakina 6-2 0-0 Kostyuk

Former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina has raced to the first set against Marta Kostyuk on Grandstand.

The fourth seed had three set points on Kostyuk's serve but the Ukrainian rallied to force deuce and even had a couple of chances to sneak in a final hold.

But at the fifth time of asking Rybakina converted her set point and is now halfway to a spot in the second round.

  16. Fourth seed Rune beaten

    Carballes Baena 6-3 4-6 6-3 6-2 Rune

Quite the shock on Court 5 as fourth seed Holger Rune is beaten by the world number 63 Roberto Carballes Baena.

Spaniard Baena has never been past the second round at the US Open and faces either Russian Aslan Karatsev or Czech Jiri Lehecka next.

  17. Post update

    Miyazaki 6-3 5-2 Betova*

Lily Miyazaki takes a few breaths to get some composure on her second serve at 30-30. Two unforced errors from Margarita Betova edges the Briton closer to the second round.

  18. Miyazaki breaks Betova

    *Miyazaki 6-3 4-2 Betova

    Lily Miyazaki breaks Margarita Betova!

It's love 40 and the Briton is able to grab the break point at the first time of asking with a powerful forehand.

The winner of this match, incidentally, plays 15th seed Belinda Bencic of Switzerland in the second round on Wednesday

  19. Game and second set Tiafoe

    *Tien 2-6 5-7 0-0 Tiafoe

Tenth seed Frances Tiafoe is a set away from reaching the second round.

The American went on a memorable run to the semi-finals here last year and is currently on Arthur Ashe Stadium against fellow American Learner Tien.
