Draper put his injury problems behind him with a statement 6-2 6-4 7-5 win over Polish 17th seed Hubert Hurkacz.

Dan Evans is always one to get straight to the point.

And the brevity of his stunned reaction to all six of the Brits players winning on Tuesday raised laughs in the media room.

Now, I couldn't possibly write exactly what he said here on the BBC, but let's just say the first word would need asterisks and the second word was 'hell'.

  5. More still to come

We will be winding up our live coverage shortly but there's still the evening session to come at the US Open, with among the games Britain's Dan Evans taking on Botic Van De Zandschulp, while world number one Carlos Alcaraz faces Lloyd Harris.

Should Evans win that will be four Brits into round three.

You can keep across the live scores here.

  6. Andy Murray loses to Grigor Dimitrov

Andy Murray says he "might need to accept" a long-awaited deep run at a Grand Slam may not ever come after his latest effort was ended in the US Open second round

Former world number one Murray, 36, lost 6-3 6-4 6-1 against 19th seed Grigor Dimitrov in New York.

Murray, ranked 37th, has not reached the last 16 of a major since resuming his career after hip surgery in 2019.

"It's unbelievably challenging to play at the highest level," he said.

"It's obviously disappointing to not play how you would like.

"Maybe I need to accept the deep runs and everything that I felt I'm capable of, they might not be there."

Over in the women's singles Elina Svitolina came from behind to beat Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and reach the third round.

The Ukrainian 26th seed battled through a tight second set before racing into a 4-0 lead in the decider.

Pavlyuchenkova responded by winning the next three games to set up a nervy finale but Svitolina won two tense service games to progress.

"It was a very tough match," Svitolina said. "I didn't play so well. I was up and down."

Elsewhere, Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova eased through by beating Italian Martina Trevisan 6-2 6-2 - the Czech ninth seed's ninth Grand Slam win in a row.

American Madison Keys, the 2017 runner-up, was similarly comfortable in brushing aside Belgian Yanina Wickmayer 6-1 6-2 in 54 minutes.

  8. Isner plays final singles match of career

John Isner brought the curtain down on his professional singles career as the American veteran lost a five-set thriller to compatriot Michael Mmoh in the US Open second round.

    Isner, 38, lost 3-6 4-6 7-6 (7-3) 6-4 7-6 (10-7) as Mmoh fought back from match point down to win a tense fifth-set tie-break.

Elsewhere, Italian Matteo Berrettinii s out after retiring when trailing 6-4 5-3 to France's Arthur Rinderknech.

The former semi-finalist badly twisted his ankle chasing down the ball as Rinderknech served for the set and, after a long period on the floor in clear pain, decided he could not continue.

Meanwhile, compatriot Jannik Sinner, who is seeded sixth, eased through with a 6-4 6-2 6-4 win over another Italian, Lorenzo Sonego.

German 12th seed Alexander Zverev, the 2020 finalist, set up an eye-catching meeting with Andy Murray's victor Grigor Dimitrov by battling past Daniel Altmaier in four sets.

With the show-courts gearing up for the night sessions, this was the place to be.

On the left side, Cam Norrie was sealing his passage into the third round of the singles on court 11.

On the right side, home favourite John Isner was playing what could be the final professional match of his career.

Isner, who lost earlier in the singles, is playing alongside fellow American Jack Sock.

With Sock also playing his last tournament before retiring, it is rammed around the court as the locals urge them on.

  10. 'I stayed tough on a tough day'

Cameron Norrie, speaking after his win: "It was tricky. Honestly he should have won that first set but I was able to take the momentum into the second set.

"Towards the end it was quite difficult with the sun coming down. I was really happy with how I played the big points and I am happy to be through.

"I played two guys who make a lot of balls. I was really proud about how I served and how I was in the big moments. I stayed tough on a tough day with the wind.

    "Match by match."

Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

I think it's just the kind of match Norrie needed. He had to work hard, he had to focus. But he was facing a lot of different tactics today.

Norrie was really strong mentally when he needed to be. This is a really good win for him.

  12. Game, set and match - Norrie

    Norrie 7-5 6-4 6-4 Hsu

And Cameron Norrie gets the job done to seal his passage into the third round.

An excellent effort by Hsu Yu-hsiou, who will have learned plenty from that.

  13. Post update

    Norrie 7-5 6-4 5-4 Hsu*

Hsu Yu-hsiou is making Cameron Norrie work for this but the qualifier's US Open run could be about to end as Norrie leads 40-30...

  14. Game, set and match Svitolina

    Svitolina 5-7 6-4 6-4 Pavlyuchenkova

News from Louis Armstrong stadium and Wimbledon semi-finalist Elina Svitolina of Ukraine has come from a set down to beat Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

The former world number three seals it with an ace.

No handshakes after this one, just a polite nod of the head.

  15. Game, set and match Zhu/Fang-Hsien

    Boulter/Putintseva 3-6 3-6 Zhu/Fang-Hsien

There's no double win for Briton's Katie Boulter tonight.

Having beaten China's Wang Yafan in three sets in singles earlier, the British number and partner Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhastan have been defeated by China's Zhu Lin and Wu Fang-hsien of Chinese Taipei in the women's doubles.

  16. Post update

    *Norrie 7-5 6-4 5-4 Hsu

Good work by Hsu Yu-hsiou on his serve as he holds, dropping just the one point after being caught out at the net by a lob.

Cameron Norrie is now serving for the match.

  17. Post update

    Norrie 7-5 6-4 5-3 Hsu*

Cameron Norrie will feel he has faced too many break points on his serve in this match and some good play at the net by Hsu Yu-hsiou helps him to another one.

Norrie knows he needs to shut this down and does so with an ace and it is deuce.

Good work by Norrie in a rally forces an error from Hsu before the British number one rescues the hold when Hsu sends a forehand wide.

Norrie is one game away from the match.

  18. Post update

    *Norrie 7-5 6-4 4-3 Hsu

US Open: Norrie beats Hsu to reach third round (9)

    Annabel Croft

Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Matches and best of five sets are a rollercoaster. There will be moments where you dip a bit.

Hsu was tentative and Norrie's experience showed.

US Open: Norrie beats Hsu to reach third round (10)

    David Law

Commentator on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

You could see that coming just from the body language of Hsu. He got tentative.

  20. Norrie breaks back

    *Norrie 7-5 6-4 4-3 Hsu

Cameron Norrie has got power into his shots again and he has break point.

The British number one then forces Hsu Yu-hsiou way back behind the baseline with some big, powerful hits before Hsu eventually drives a forehand long and Norrie gets the break back.
