"But who else will I eat ice cream with?"
Kingdom Hearts is really fucking sad, guys. There's such a deep melancholy to this portion of the series that really digs into some strange part of my soul that gets unparalleled catharsis from watching fake anime Disneyland teenagers morosely eat ice cream while monologuing about the infinities contained within others' experiences that they will never themselves reach.
As a three-hour film, this suffers a bit, but being broken up into so many tiny sections makes it easier to swallow. My only real complaint is that, presumably for budget reasons, most of the action scenes just fade to black or otherwise cut away. For the gameplay portions this deliberately skips out on,…

This is why KH 358/2 is my favorite KH story:
It wasn’t a matter if summer was going to end, but when.
Days poses the questions what constitutes a “self” and how much of that comes from our environment, from where do we craft identity and purpose? What does it mean to pursue power and how does it insulate you from connection? On top of that, you’re Roxas, desperately believing he can hold it all together by his sheer force of will. By the last act you feel hopeless Roxas little family the one you’ve spent days with have gone, his sense of trust is now gone and even then he goes to the last and only place he felt…

Story wise, this is the best Kingdom Hearts game although Kingdom Hearts II is my favorite so far in other aspects. The graphics aren’t amazing looking but as a lifelong DS user (348/2 Days was a DS game) those types of graphics were nice to see again.
The type of story Days tells is a lot darker and emotional than what we’ve gotten prior (Chain of Memories comes close) so the range of stories this series can tell is neat to see and makes me excited for later entries.

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days is undeniably the darkest and most emotional chapter of the entire franchise. Set during the middle act of the first Kingdom Hearts and not long before Kingdom Hearts 2, the plot follows Sora Nobody Roxas and his journey through Organization XIII alongside members Axel and the mysterious Xion, all while digging deep into his backstory.
Even with many of the series hallmark complexities and the bizarre nature of the title (actually pronounced 358 Days/2), the relationship between Roxas, Axel and Xion is one that's beautiful to watch, but its one that's also super heartbreaking once major events and revelations begin to unravel and tear this trio apart. The voice acting and writing might be really cheesy…

Wtf as if this is actually on here 💀

It’s actually hilarious that this is on here.
Anyway how come no one ever told me the Kingdom Hearts series fucking NAILS this beautiful dreamlike, melancholic, and nostalgic atmosphere? It’s definitely got a solid amount of cringe but there are soooo many of these scenes of kids just casually chatting and talking about how much they love each other while watching the sunset with peaceful music and it honest to god makes me want to cry for real.
This story specifically is an unironically pretty damn well written tragedy with actually reasonable motivations for every major character and I just was not expecting that at all considering this is a series featuring Micheal Mouse. This “movie” included in Kingdom Hearts - HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX has weird scenes of text that explains gaps between cutscenes and it still stands head and shoulders above media I’ve seen that are made for grown adults
